EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK 2019.- Walk with us !!
Flagship campaign that runs annually with the aim to promoting clean mobility and sustainable urban transport.
The European Mobility Week is a campaign aimed at sensitizing both the political leaders and the citizens about the negative consequences of the irrational use of the car in the city, both for public health and for the environment, and the benefits of using more sustainable modes of transport such as public transportation, cycling and walking trips. This is an emblematic campaign for mobility and transport, which takes place in different European cities until September 22, 2019.
This initiative emerged in Europe in 1999 and from the year 2000 had the support of the European Commission. It is celebrated every year, from September 16 to 22, carrying out activities to promote sustainable mobility and promoting the development of good practices and permanent measures.
European Mobility Week is DG MOVE’s flagship annual campaign. In this edition, more than 2000 cities organise events for the promotion of sustainable urban mobility in Europe, often culminating in a car-free day, and with many opportunities for residents to interact with local authorities and discuss the benefits of active and sustainable transport. The mobility week runs alongside the European Day Without a Road Death campaign, on 21 September. Have organised events to encourage residents to try out alternatives to traditional means of transport.
EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK encourages us to explore the many different options available for getting from A to B, and to think about the mode that best suits our particular journey.
By introducing some sustainable transport modes into our journeys, not only can we have a positive impact on the environment, we may just find that we’re fitter and happier.
The theme of this year’s 2019 campaign is “Walk with us !!”.
This year’s EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK encourages people to move or move in a sustainable, healthy and safe way. Walking or cycling tours are highly beneficial activities for both health and the environment. Sharing private vehicles and, especially, traveling by public transport such as the coach or the subway, also has a great impact on environmental respect. In this sense, the Avant Grup transport group has the most modern coach fleet, equipped with the EUROVI engines, with the lowest CO2 emission index, in accordance with European regulations, and has the “ Environmental Quality in Vehicle Fleets ”
In Catalonia, from September 16 to 22, the Week of Sustainable and Safe Mobility is also celebrated, which promotes more sustainable, safe and healthy mobility habits such as traveling on foot, by bicycle, by public transport or by electric vehicle, as well how to visualize the possible changes in the use of public space, improve air quality and reduce pollution.
The main objectives of the week are the following:
- Stimulate citizen behavior regarding the use of vehicles compatible with sustainable urban developments; in particular with the protection of air quality, the prevention of traffic accidents, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the rational consumption of energy resources.
- Sensitize the public about the environmental impacts of transport and inform about its different modalities.
- Promote the use of sustainable means of transport and, in particular, public transport, bicycle, mobility on foot and electric vehicles.
- Promote a reunion of citizens with the city, its people and its cultural heritage, in a healthy and relaxed environment.

BACK TO SCHOOL. Safety in school transport.
SAFETY ALSO COMES FROM EDUCATION.
The beginning of each school year represents an important step in the return to normalcy for all families.
As every year, a new school year has begun in the different educational centers throughout the country. In a good part of the institutes and schools, the school bus is the main means of transport for the transfer of the students to their respective educational centers.
Bus transportation is also necessary to complement the educational program and carry out the different activities, trips and excursions scheduled during the course.
Parents, teachers and schools can also do their bit to improve safety on school bus trips.
Let’s go over a few essential behavioral guidelines that need to be instilled in children’s minds.
Getting on and off the bus. These are crucial moments and if the right action is not taken in these situations it can seriously endanger children’s safety. It is essential to get to the bus stop in plenty of time; don’t wait for your child on the other side of the road, and don’t double park.
Inside the bus. The ideal situation is for every child to remain in their seat and respect the space of other passengers. This avoids many unexpected situations that might otherwise have unfortunate outcomes.
