TOURISM IN CATALONIA during 2018
Until November 30, Barcelona has had an increase of 4.58% of tourists and visitors, with respect to the same period of the previous year. These figures consolidate Barcelona as a tourist destination, where the increase in international tourists stands out.
Of the places most visited by tourists, the Sagrada Familia stands out, with 4.5 million visitors, the Park Güell with more than 3.1 million and the FC Barcelona Museum that exceeds 1.8 million visitors.
The data for 2017 have hinted at a redistribution of tourists as they have significantly increased visits to Barcelona, where they have grown by 30% compared to 2017. The joint work between the different tourism promotion agencies is starting to give results and has reduced tourist pressure in the city of Barcelona, while they have increased throughout the province.
Highlights are the visits to La Roca Village, with 4.6 million and also to Montserrat, which have had 2.7 million visitors. Viladecans – The Style Outlet has also been included in this ranking, which has had 2.6 million visits. The natural spaces have also been the focus of attention of tourists and visitors. Among the natural environments that have registered a greater number of visitors, include the Montseny Natural Park, the Natural Area of the Delta del Llobregat and the Park of the Sierra de Marina.
In contrast, in the rest of Catalonia, especially in the behavior of vocational tourism of sun and beach, there has been a slight decrease in tourists and visitors who have spent the summer on both Costa Brava and Costa Dorada.
The Barcelona-El Prat Airport also beats the passenger record in 2018.
The Barcelonas-El Prat Airport grew 6.1% in users last year, and surpassed for the first time ever the yearly 50 million mark in passengers in 2018
According to figures published on Monday by the AENA, publicc company managing Spain’s top airports, 50,172,457 people took off or landed with a flight in Barcelona last year. This means 6.1% more than the previous year. The last December 2018 crucially contributed to reach the 50 million mark, with 3.4 million people using the infrastructure, 9.5% more than twelve months before.
The Catalan capital’s airport was the sixth most used in the EU, only preceded by Heathrow (London), Charles de Gaulle (Paris), Schiphol (Amsterdam), Frankfurt and Barajas (Madrid).
GironaCosta Brava, The one in northern Catalonia, got 2.01 million passengers, some 3.8% more than in 2017. This way the infrastructure continues a recovery for a second year in a row.
Reus airport, in the south, also slightly increased its users (1.8%) to reach 1.03 million. Its all-time best was in 2009, with 1.7 million.
