Cultural week. International Day of Museums – Cultural Tourism Activities

The International Museum Day has been celebrated, since 1977, every May 18. It is a day that takes place all over the world. Museums are the real protagonists, as they offer an attractive range of activities to sensitize visitors to the importance they have historically had in the development of society. The Museums open their doors for free in a day that is extended until midnight and, in addition to the exhibitions they offer, are complemented by activities, workshops and other leisure-cultural proposals to celebrate this party. “Museums as cultural hubs, the future of tradition” is the theme of this year chosen by ICOM (International Council of Museums).

In Catalonia the Night of the Museums is celebrated in a very special way as it allows you to enjoy and discover its cultural offer for free. The proposals of the museums are presented accompanied by more than 250 activities to be enjoyed as a group or with the family. Guided tours, dramatized shows and family workshops are some of the most popular activities.

In the province of Barcelona, ​​especially in its metropolitan area, there are more than 80 cultural spaces, which will open their doors from seven in the afternoon until one in the morning. In the same initiative is added the 68 museums and local facilities throughout the demarcation of Barcelona.

In the area of ​​Girona, its regional network of the Museums has a small difference in terms of schedule, since they will close the doors at midnight (one hour before those in the Barcelona area). Throughout the province there will be a great variety of museums with different themes that complement their cultural offer with concerts, guided visits or family shows. There are 26 different cultural proposals to discover.

In the regions of Tarragona and Tierras del Ebro they have programmed various activities and all of them will also open until midnight. In Tarragona city the program of the night itinerary stands out for seven museums and cultural centres, which present an offer of a common concept of universal character.

Finally, in the demarcation of Lleida, its Network of Museums of the Lands of Lleida and Arán are added to the initiative of the commemoration of the Nights of the Museums with the programming of different cultural activities that combine the visits to the exhibitions with dance, music, shows and tastings of artisanal products of the local gastronomy.

In Europe, the “Nuit européenne des musées” they have the support of the UNESCO, of the Council of Europe and of ICOM and numerous institutional partnerships and medias.

The European night of museums will take place on Saturday, May 18th, 2019. That evening, numerous museums will open their doors free everywhere in Europe from nightfall to midnight. Commented visits, play routes, workshops, projections, tastings, living shows, exceptional animations will give to live to a wide public an at once convivial and play experience of the museum.

This year will mark the fifteenth edition of event. In 2018, event had mobilised more than 3200 museums in thirty European countries since her launch in 2005. The Nuit européenne des musées attracts, every year, a numerous public in an increasing number of museums.
